There is a Forest
Ilan Braun
There is a forest where the trees’ leaves
Are mouths which speak to the intruder
Telling their story of ashes
Where the grey trunks are mothers’ bodies
And their branches, their children
Where the whirling wind carries the leaves In a wild dance
Where joy is banned
There is a forest where my soul is struggling
And getting lost
No landmark for my reason
Where the cruel thorns catch my heart’s
garments
Where my foot steps slow down
Getting heavier & heavier
Where the sun never shines
Where the silence freezes
And no bird warbling
And no friend talking
Yet, in his heart, the forest shivers
Six millions leaves trembling under the cold wind
